Dr. Shahrzad Bazargan-Hejazi, PhD, is an
Associate Researcher in Psychiatry & Biobehavioral Sciences Semel
Institute. She's also chair of
Medical Student Research Thesis at
Charles Drew University, college of medicine and
David Geffen School of Medicine
at
University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

As a Sociologist
and health services researcher she has extensive experience in
conducting research on the social aspects of illness as well as
developing, implementing, and evaluating interventions to improve health
care access, utilization, and health outcome for underserved minorities,
particularly those affected by alcohol problems.
She has been the lead investigator and co-investigator in several
projects funded by NIAAA, CDC, and California Endowment. She has over 30
publications in peer reviewed journals including; Substance Abuse,
Annals of Emergency Medicine, American Journal of Emergency Medicine,
Journal of Trauma, American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse,
Preventive Medicine, Drug and Alcohol Dependence. Journal of Studies on
Alcohol, Journal of the Scientific Study of Religion and others.
Dr. Bazargan-Hejazi is also the Chair of Medical Student Research Thesis
Program at Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science, College of
Medicine and within this capacity has kept an active role in teaching,
and mentoring medical students in their research thesis.
She is also a member Editorial Advisory Board to
The Open Addiction Journal (TOADDJ)
and an Associate Editor for the
Journal of Injury and Violence
Research (JIVR).
